Damp Proofing Services

Damp problems can occur in any property but are more likely in older properties which may have been built without damp-proofing measures in place. Damp can lead to serious structural problems and joist rot within your property as well as posing a hazard to health.

We are experts in identifying and treating all kinds of damp problems including Rising Damp, Penetrating Damp & Condensation.

We provide professional property surveys to diagnose potential damp problems and provide the injections of damp proof courses and all restorative work to the internal walls & plaster.

All of our damp proofing technicians are Property Care Association (PCA) qualified damp proofing specialists and Sovereign approved contractors.

Penetrating Damp

Penetrating damp, sometimes known as “rain penetration”, can occur through walls, roofs, window or door surrounds, cracked pointing, blocked weep holes, defective seals or any other area where water can enter the structure.

Symptoms include:

  • Damp smells or a musty odour.
  • Wet & watery walls.
  • Rotting of embedded floor timbers (wet rot).
  • Mould growth (both high & low levels).

Rising Damp

Rising damp occurs when moisture from the ground travels up through the walls by capillary action (effectively sucked up through tiny tubes in the bricks) and into other materials such as plaster, skirtings & timbers etc.

Symptoms include:

  • Damp smells or a musty odour.
  • Reduced temperature at the lower portion of the wall.
  • Rotting of embedded floor timbers.
  • Crumbling or blistered plaster due salt crystallisation.

Condensation Damp

Condensation occurs when moist air comes into contact with a colder surface like a wall, window or mirror etc. The air can’t hold the moisture and tiny drops of water appear. It also occurs in places where the air is still, like the corners of rooms, behind furniture or inside wardrobes.

Symptoms include:

  • Damp smells or a musty odour.
  • Clouds of small black dots (mould).
  • Water droplets on colder surfaces.
  • Damp feeling air.
